Walking, Cycling, Chateaux visits and Wine Tasting
around Les Fleurs and the Loire Valley

The countryside around Les Fleurs (Gites in the Loire) is ideal for walking and cycling. Surrounded by vineyards, sunflowers, maize, quaint villages, many historic places of interest and in the heart of the Parc National, we are ideally placed for walking, cycling and motoring alike.

Just outside the enclosed courtyard, turning either left or right will lead our guests to magnificent views. On the back roads around Les Fleurs, traffic is very light, the cyclist or walker will hardly meet any.

Wine Tasting in the Loire Valley

There are many small wine producers in the area who partly rely on the tourist trade to keep them in business. Guests staying at Les Fleurs (Self catering holidays in the Loire) are given wine routes of recommended vintners.

Here we give you just three of these highly recommended wines. There are 63 Appellations d’Origine Contrôlées in the Loire Valley’s patchwork of wines from Nantes to Sancerre.

Wonderful wines are produced in the Loire, one of which is sweet and unique Coteaux du Layon, which can only be produced from vineyards that border the Layon River. Coteaux du Layon has been produced for 15 centuries!! Made with the Chenin Blanc grape.

In 1089 the Abbey at Bourgueil was credited with the introducing the wonderful and versatile Cabernet Franc to the district. Bourgueil is a red wine, similar to Chinon, it is difficult to distinguish one from the other. This is because Bourgueil and Chinon share the same type of soil, history and wine making tradition. Bourgueil is made from Cabernet grapes it is often compared to a Médoc.

Rosé de la Loire is a clean, light, fruity and refreshing wine. The Loire valley region has been perfecting this crisp dry style for hundreds of years. Made from the cabinet franc grape.

The above wines are just a very short selection of the wines produced in the region. Wine festivals are held throughout the area and are a great day out. (It is a good idea to nominate a driver as French drink drive laws are very strict).

Chateaux visits

The Loire is renowned for its romantic and historic chateaux. As we are centrally placed for visiting many of these fabulous former homes of the kings, queens and princes of France, guests can easily follow our suggested itinerary and soak up the history and romance of these extraordinary former palaces, hunting lodges and stately homes of the wealthy.
