Flora and Fauna at Les Fleurs
Self catering holidays in the Loire Valley France |
|
When we first bought the property in 2002 there were no
flowers only a vegetable garden and delicious strawberries,
Having decided to call our self catering cottages ‘Les
Fleurs’, (The Flowers) we set about transforming the
grounds and gardens into the glorious 5 senses.
The
first and second senses were for sight and smell so we
planted dozens and dozens of roses, lilies, lavender plus
many other varieties of flowers. The glorious colours and
wonderful scents fill the gardens and courtyard.
In 2012
we were presented with a prize for the most colourful garden
in the Commune.
Here we
have put together a few photographs to give guests a picture
of the flowers, herbs and fruits in the gardens of Les
Fleurs. |

Touch
and taste were given by the sensational fruits, such as
strawberries, raspberries, red and black currents, rhubarb,
cherries, plums, apricots, pears and apples. All of which
can be eaten still warm from the sunshine in which they
bathe. (We don’t use pesticides, just a lot of weeding!!)

And of course no good cooking can be done without herbs, so
we provide a number of herbs for our guests to use.

The
final sense is of sound, which comes from the birds that
feed on the insects and build nests in the trees. Their
beautiful songs fill the gardens with the sound of nature.
